When you migrate to Australia, your biggest concern will be how to get a job in Australia as early as possible.
In order to address it we collected a few important points for you which will help you in getting a job quickly. Once you arrive in Australia, first thing is to write a good concise resume. Here are a few tips: –
- Pls, write your visa status on the first line of the resume. For example, you are an Australian citizen, Permanent resident, dependent, work visa, etc. This is the single most important first line on your resume.
- Please limit your resume to 2 pages at maximum.
- Please don’t write how many years of experience you have, no one considers it in Australia. A software developer is still a software developer no matter how many years of experience.
- Focus on your skills to get a job in Australia.
- Look at all the major job sites to get a job in Australia – LinkedIn, seek.com.au, indeed, etc.
- If you come across a job, read the job description carefully and fine-tune your resume accordingly.
- Try to submit a fine tunes custom resume for each job.
- Don’t just push your generic resume on each job post, it will get filtered by the automated systems at the other end.
- Look for keywords in the job description and try to answer those keywords in your resume. For example, if the job asks for software development, pls don’t have your resume reflect how you have 10 years of experience, you were a development manager back home, you are an architect also. Remove all that and focus on the skills you have as a software developer to send a clear concise message across. If the job asks for a software development manager, focus on those skills in your resume and remove everything else. This can amplify your chance to get a job in Australia.
- Remove the fancy titles in your resume. For example, if the job is asking for a software tester, a fancy title like ‘Associate Vice president’ won’t help but it will get rejected by the automated system.
- Remove unnecessary details like whether you are male/female, your date of birth, your percentage of marks, your father/mother name, your school name, your time of birth, or the way the planets were aligned when you were born.
- Hence, in summary, the job post on a job website is a question and a clear concise resume with a skillset mentioned in the answer will help you to get a job in Australia.
Hope these points will help you get a basic idea about how to get a job in Australia as a new migrant.
